Welcome to

Miranda Rae

From National BBC Radio to TV presenter, from Mainstream Commercial radio to Head of Specialist Programmes for Galaxy Radio, Club DJ and music pioneer to newspaper columnist, Miranda Rae certainly has more strings to her bow than most. From her teenage years, Miranda has been involved in the music and media industries and has come a long way. Miranda has won numerous awards from the prestigious Sony Award to winning Gold in the British Podcast Awards 2022. You can listen to Miranda’s hugely popular live radio show every Friday 4-6pm on Ujima Radio.

Miranda’s career has gone from strength to strength, specialising in her passion for radio she has incorporated TV presenting, voice-over work and, of course, radio & podcast production. Working across all the terrestrial channels, Miranda has ensured that she has not been pigeon-holed into any one style or format. From presenting pioneering new music to prime-time mainstream shows to award-winning documentary series.

At 18 Miranda became Promotions and PR manager for FTP Radio in Bristol, the UK's 1st pirate radio station to be awarded an incremental license, 6 months ahead of Kiss FM in London.

Miranda organised numerous promotional events with stars such as Take That, East 17, Massive Attack, Neneh Cherry, A Tribe Called Quest, Dream Warriors, The Shamen, Omar, Goldie and David Grant.

At this time women were still very under-represented in radio. Miranda, along with a group of women set up the UK’s first women’s radio station, FEM FM, an iconic moment in Broadcast history. In 2022 to pay tribute to the 30th anniversary of Fem FM Miranda worked with a group of UWE students to create The Story of Fem FM which you can listen to and find out more on the legacy website:

In 1992 Miranda was invited to join Galaxy Radio, where her success was fast and furious. Within a short time, she became head of specialist programming producing and presenting a ground-breaking format of Dance radio.

Miranda was responsible for discovering many new artists, including Roni Size, now one of the world's leading music producers and winner of The Mercury Music Prize.

Miranda was approached by BBC Radio 5 and offered to present and write for a weekly speech-based programme called Euromix. Miranda took over the role as a presenter from Magenta Devine (Rapido) and worked alongside Robert Elms (Travel Log, Channel 4, Spandau Ballet).

It was her work with Euromix that won her the prestigious Sony Radio Award. Galaxy Radio soon recognized Miranda’s national appeal and made sure she became one of Galaxy’s top prime time presenters broadcasting to 3.5 million people daily. Miranda established a worldwide reputation for pioneering new music and her A 'n' R work was recognized officially by many DJ’s, artists and records companies.

Miranda has worked with Marshall Jefferson, Todd Terry, Goldie, Neneh Cherry, Shaggy, Gill Scott Heron, Massive Attack, Smith N Mighty, Tricky, Full Cycle, Roni Size, Omar, David Grant, Wu-Tang Clan, Finaly Quaye, Cash Crew, Roy Ayres to name but a few. Miranda has played most of the top clubs in the UK including residencies in her hometown of Bristol at Lakota to the prestigious Glastonbury Festival.

Miranda is also a member of the NUJ, has written for numerous media outlets, been a regular columnist and journalist including a front-page story and 6 page centre spread for Sunday Express.

In April 2018 Miranda became Broadcast Manager of Ujima Radio where she oversaw 150 volunteers and 59 programmes a week and is now developing a Sales & Marketing department for the station as they prepare to launch on a new DAB license.

Miranda produces and presents The Word every Friday 4-6pm live on Ujima Radio.

I am writing to recommend Miranda Rae, a journalist and broadcaster I have known through her work in media, music and arts industries for many years.

As an independent journalist, Miranda is consistent in supporting the cause of social justice, giving a platform to voices that would not usually be heard in the digital landscape and shining a light on issues important to Bristol’s communities.

I know Miranda to be a hardworking, honest and reliable person. Miranda's work at Ujima Radio has meant she has curated many different shows that do not usually get to have a voice themselves - from platforming spoken word, drama and storytelling as well as independent news. She also nurtures new and emerging talents to contribute and grow through the organisation she has founded, Sound Women South West, and she continues to highlight her dedication to community radio is unquestionable but I would be excited to see what Miranda could achieve if given that extra support and funding.

I have been interviewed by Miranda many times in my role as Mayor and keep going back because I trust her to engage in quality journalism, not be concerned about sound bites and “click bait” and allow for her guests to talk and feel like can be themselves and not under attack.

I attended Miranda’s Podcast workshops and it was absolutely great. I am a visual learner and pick up by asking questions but also through doing this online workshop, it offered all that and more. It also allowed the thought of starting my own podcast to not be so daunting. Miranda offered so many resources and advice on equipment that will not break the bank. Recently me and my friend started are Podcast and we are now on the 5th Episode and really enjoying having something out side of work to focus on.

I recommend anyone going on the course, even if you just wanted to find out how it all works.
