The Story of Fem FM – the UK’s 1st All Womens radio station
I am writing to recommend Miranda Rae, a journalist and broadcaster I have known through her work in media, music and arts industries for many years.
As an independent journalist, Miranda is consistent in supporting the cause of social justice, giving a platform to voices that would not usually be heard in the digital landscape and shining a light on issues important to Bristol’s communities.
I know Miranda to be a hardworking, honest and reliable person. Miranda's work at Ujima Radio has meant she has curated many different shows that do not usually get to have a voice themselves - from platforming spoken word, drama and storytelling as well as independent news. She also nurtures new and emerging talents to contribute and grow through the organisation she has founded, Sound Women South West, and she continues to highlight her dedication to community radio is unquestionable but I would be excited to see what Miranda could achieve if given that extra support and funding.
I have been interviewed by Miranda many times in my role as Mayor and keep going back because I trust her to engage in quality journalism, not be concerned about sound bites and “click bait” and allow for her guests to talk and feel like can be themselves and not under attack.

I attended Miranda’s Podcast workshops and it was absolutely great. I am a visual learner and pick up by asking questions but also through doing this online workshop, it offered all that and more. It also allowed the thought of starting my own podcast to not be so daunting. Miranda offered so many resources and advice on equipment that will not break the bank. Recently me and my friend started are Podcast and we are now on the 5th Episode and really enjoying having something out side of work to focus on.
I recommend anyone going on the course, even if you just wanted to find out how it all works.
